A couple of days ago I provided an in depth analysis of the Mehdi Benatia transfer saga. After it was believed that Bayern Munich would be distancing themselves away from the Moroccan thanks to Roma’s astronomical price tag on the player, reports from the local newspaper Il Messaggero claim that Benatia is all set to join the German Champions by the next 48 hours. The report has also been cited by TMW.
Earlier Bayern were not willing to match the €35m asking price and had offered €25m for the player’s services. However it is no believed that an agreement has been reached at €30m. Roma chief Walter Sabatini is also expected to fly to Germany to complete the deal. Calciomercato have also reported that Benatia is set to sign a five year contract withe the Bavarians.
This comes as a huge blow for Manchester United as the Red Devils need defensive reinforcements after Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand all left the club at the end of last season.
