Spanish newspaper AS claims that Spain goal keeper David de Gea has said ‘goodbye’ to his club coaches, as he wishes to join Real Madrid in the summer. De Gea, through his agent, Jorge Mendes, has conveyed the message that he wants to leave the club in the summer to join Real Madrid.

De Gea, who was voted as the club’s player of the year this season, has one year left on his contract which has made the task all the more difficult for United. They want him to stay but there lies the huge risk of losing him for free next summer. AS adds that United are reluctant to sell him, and that a parallel move for Karim Benzema would have sweetened the deal, but the club do not want to go into such complications.

De Gea and his entourage are convinced that United will give in to his wish eventually and will allow him to join Madrid in the summer. The player himself hasn’t said anything about his desire to leave, showing good professionalism and respect to the club, and so far has asked his agent to do the talking for himself.

United have already started looking for options elsewhere, with Tottenham goal keeper Hugo Lloris tipped to replace De Gea, if the Spaniard leaves the club.
