Tottenham Hotspur are yet to appoint a permanent successor to Jose Mourinho and have been linked with several names in recent months.

According to a report from Football Insider, club chairman Daniel Levy is now looking to appoint someone who would be a low maintenance option with cheap or zero compensation involved.

The Londoners have been linked with the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte in the last few days.

Pochettino is unhappy with the situation at Paris Saint-Germain, and a potential return has been discussed.

Conte left his position as Inter Milan’s manager after guiding them to the Serie A title, and the former Chelsea boss is available this summer.

Spurs need to bring in a top-class manager who can help them end their trophy drought and convince the top players to stay at the club beyond this summer.

With Harry Kane angling for a move, an appointment like Conte would certainly force the England international to consider staying at the club.

SL View: Spurs cannot afford to take any risks

Tottenham have already fallen behind Leicester City in terms of development, and the managerial appointment this summer will be crucial.

Levy must look to bring in a proven winner and send out a statement to Spurs’ rivals.

The choice of manager will indicate Tottenham’s ambitions as a club, and the Londoners cannot afford to take any gambles.
