Chelsea’s €40m gem to be part of a new look Barcelona next season?

I personally cannot remember a day when Chelsea’s David Luiz wasn’t been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, and today is of no exception. Barcelona is again the suitor, with Spanish newspaper ‘Sport.es’ claiming the Catalan giants want to bring both the Brazilian and Juventus dynamo Arturo Vidal to the Camp Nou this summer.

As you can see, the Sport.es have run with the story on the front cover of their printed edition, with David Luiz haring after a ball, sporting a rather peculiar black strap on his knee.

Vidal is also present, with the report claiming the pair could be at the Camp Nou together next season, with the postponement of Barcelona’s two-year transfer ban allowing the Spaniards to push ahead with their transfer plans this summer.

The 27-year-old Luiz has been used sparingly by Chelsea this season, despite some barnstorming performances against top such sides such as Manchester City, PSG, and Arsenal.

Usually deployed as a destructive midfield operator by Jose Mourinho, Barcelona are keen to bring him to La Liga as a centre-back, with a space in their defence set to open up following the departure of outgoing mainstay, Charles Puyol.

Barcelona crashed out of the Champions League this month to Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid, and are also trailing Diego Simeone’s side by four points at the top of La Liga, with Atleti only four games from winning the title.

Considered to be a failed season by the majority of fans and pundits, the Catalan giants are said to be ready to splash the cash this summer, and bring in as many as seven new players to make a push for the top honours next year.

Sport.es say that David Luiz had been on Barca’s transfer agenda last summer, but that the €40m valuation had scared them off.

Soccerlens can’t see that price dropping any time soon, especially considering his displays this season, and Barca will certainly have a fight on their hands to secure the star.
