Chelsea are planning to shoo away any interest from Barcelona by offering Victor Moses a contract extension. It was reported three days ago that the Catalan giants were planning a move for the Nigerian winger. The versatility displayed by Moses, by carrying out the right wing-back role at Stamford Bridge this season, has seen Barcelona view him as a long-term replacement for Dani Alves.

Sky Sports has reported that the Blues are moving in to extend the player’s contract with the club, which currently expires in 2019. Michael Emenalo, Chelsea’s technical director, wants to offer his countryman a much-improved deal. Under the current circumstances, it looks like Moses’ importance to the first-team is only going to grow with time.

It would have been difficult to fathom Barcelona’s interest in Moses at the start of the season. The 25 year-old’s integration into Antonio Conte‘s 3-4-3 system though, has made him an integral cog in the team. He is one of the first names on the team-sheet nowadays, and scored the winner at the weekend in the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur for his third league goal of the season. Chelsea are currently top of the Premier League table following a run of seven straight wins.

French source, Le 10 Sport, quoted Moses as saying, “Chelsea is my club. Antonio Conte gives me the opportunity to express myself and I am quite happy with what I am doing right now.”

The Blues did not qualify for the Champions League this season, but will be looking for a quick return to Europe’s most elite club competition next year. The current squad has formed a really cohesive unit and everything seems to be ticking well. But Chelsea will know that they need to be playing with the best of the best to keep their important players, away from the lure of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
