Chelsea are set to offer Loïc Rémy to Everton as part of their bid to bring Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge, according to the Telegraph.
The Blues are prepared to break their transfer record to bring back the Belgian striker two years after selling him to the Toffees. Their current record deal stands at purchasing Fernando Torres from Liverpool for £50 million in 2011.
Lukaku cost Everton £28 million back in 2014 but could now bring the Merseyside club as much as £70 million plus Rémy according to the Telegraph.
Chelsea have so far failed in their attempts to bring the 23-year-old back to West London after seeing their initial £57 million offer rejected.
Antonio Conte’s aggressive attempts to sign Lukaku suggest one of two things. Either the Blues are going to play a 3-5-2 formation this season meaning Diego Costa will need a partner up front. Or the Spanish international could be heading back to Atlético Madrid.
The Italian tactician appears keen to bring Lukaku to Stamford Bridge despite the striker being a disappointment in Belgium’s 2-0 loss to Italy at Euro 2016 when Conte was in charge of the opposition.
As for Loïc Rémy, the French striker is expected to leave Chelsea this summer so this deal could work out well for both sides. For Everton to accept an offer from the West London club one would think Ronald Koeman would need his replacement already lined up with the Premier League less than two weeks away.
Everton are aware that Lukaku would like to move back to Chelsea, putting the Merseyside club in a difficult position to reject a £70 million offer plus player with little more than four weeks left of the summer transfer window.
It will be interesting to see what happens next. Will Everton accept Chelsea’s bid and take Loïc Rémy in exchange for Romelu Lukaku? Will their Dutch manager look for another replacement and accept cash only? Or will the Belgian remain at Everton for the 2016-17 Premier League season?
