Chelsea and Manchester United are reportedly set to do battle for the signature of Porto left-back Alex Sandro this summer.

According to talkSPORT, Sandro has emerged as David Moyes No.1 choice to replace the ageing Patrice Evra, whose contract expires at Old Trafford this summer. Meanwhile Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is also preparing to make a move for the Brazilian.

Mourinho has largely used right-back Cesar Azpilicueta out of position on the left this term, with the Spaniard having kept 33-year-old Ashley Cole on the sidelines for the majority of the campaign.

The duo have long been linked with the Saints starlet Luke Shaw, who has impressed in the Premier League this season – but the England international’s price just keeps rising.

It’s thought that Sandro could be signed for £15m and would therefore prove to be a much more cost effective purchase than Shaw.

The 23-year-old has starred since his arrival in Portugal in 2011 winning two league titles at the Estadio Dragao.

The South American has played 86 times for the Portuguese champions to date and has Champions League experience.

Also, the six-cap Brazilian international could be an outside bet for Brazil’s World Cup squad this summer, depending on the fitness of Real Madrid’s Marcelo, who is reportedly a target for Liverpool.
