PSG striker Edinson Cavani has opened the door to a shock summer move to the Premier League, with the Uruguayan hit man revealing he is unhappy with the way he is being utilised in France.

Chelsea and Manchester United were heavily linked with the 27-year-old in the summer, but mega-rich PSG swooped in to bring him to the Parc des Princes in a whopping £55m deal.

But it has not been clear sailing for the striker since arriving in Paris, with Cavani playing in the shadow of ‘demi-god’ Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the majority of the season, and has often been shifted out to the wing.

Cavani, speaking with French magazine L’Equipe, expressed his wish to sit down with club officials at the end of the season to discuss his situation, and did not rule out a summer move away from the French capital,

“Will I remain at Paris next term? We will see at the end of the season,” said Cavani when asked about his future, relayed by Sky Sports,

“I am fine in Paris, but obviously there are things we have to talk about with the club, things we need to do in a different way.”

The striker has been scoring regularly for PSG this season, bagging 21 goals in just 33 appearances; but he is becoming disillusioned with life in the current PSG formation, with Zlatan ploughing a lone furrow up top, and Cavani asked to pull back and defend at times,

“But for a forward used to scoring and which has to do defensive tasks now, it is not easy.

“I don’t want to talk about sacrifices because making efforts has always been part of my game. But now I am more defensive and it is more difficult because when you came, it was with other ideas and other views about your position in the team and the club.

“Playing in 4-4-2 was my vision of the team when I joined Paris. It is one of the arguments that motivated me to sign in that club. Let’s terminate Le Championnat and we will see what will happen.”

Chelsea are in dire need of a striker, with Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba all failing to consistently get the goals for Jose Mourinho’s side.

The Blues have been linked with a great many targets this summer, and the outspoken Mourinho previously claiming that it would be ‘less difficult’ to prise Cavani away from PSG than to get Ibrahimovic, something that the Uruguayan refused to be drawn on,

“He(Mourinho) probably had good reasons to say that, but I don’t know anything. I am not journalist, I am not talking about transfers.”

“Indeed, Chelsea was very attracted to me last summer, but what is really important in their transfers? PSG showed real trust and real determination to include me in their project. When you pay such transfer fee, that is a proof you really want the player.”

When asked about reports that Chelsea and Man United had opened talks with his representatives in February, the striker said,

“Frankly I don’t know. Nowadays, my family is with me in Paris and if something should happen, my brother will manage it and will sit on a table with any clubs’ officials.”

United have endured a nightmare first season under David Moyes, and this had led to reports that Cavani had actually ruled out a move to Old Trafford in the near future.
