Chelsea sign another Brazilian defender

Chelsea sign another Brazilian defenderChelsea have announced that they have agreed a deal with Fluminense to sign attacking right back Wallace in January. Wallace is a Brazilian Under-20 international and he will stay at his current club on loan until the end of the season. The two clubs have chosen not to reveal the transfer fee involved.

He can add a great deal to the Chelsea defence and has been signed as a versatile defender who can play in a number of roles. He was a key part of the Fluminense side that won the league title last season to go with two domestic trophies.

He made his professional debut for Rio de Janiero at the age of just 17-years-old and produced 18 superb performances for the club which prompted his transfer to his current club side.

Wallace becomes the fifth Brazilian to join Chelsea in recent times as he will link up with David Luiz, Oscar, Ramires and Lucas Piazon. He is almost a replica of the way Ashley Cole plays at left back for the club.

Reports have suggested that when Deco left Chelsea to go and play for the club, a clause was inserted into the deal which gave Chelsea around a 40% ownership stake in Wallace’s contract.

This suggests that the transfer fee involved is likely to be much smaller than if another side had come in and bid for the player with a view to a permanent transfer.

He has admitted that he was interested in moving to Stamford Bridge ever since he knew Chelsea were interested and the fact that the club already have some Brazilian players should make the transition for the teenager a lot easier to bear than if he were moving to a club where no on spoke his language.
