Celtic are prepared to compete with arch-rivals Rangers as they seek to land the signature of Josh Maja from Bordeaux this summer, Football Insider reports.

The Hoops have enjoyed another solid campaign in the Scottish top-flight and they are currently 13 points ahead of second-placed Rangers at the top of the table.

Part of their success has been due to the presence of Odsonne Edouard upfront, who has registered 27 goals and 19 assists across all competitions, with 21 goals and 12 assists coming in the Premiership.

The Frenchman has been linked with a possible move to the Premier League this summer with the likes of Everton and Arsenal interested and the Hoops appear to be looking at a potential replacement.

According to Football Insider, the Scottish champions have revived their pursuit of Maja, having previously failed to sign him from Sunderland during the 2019 winter transfer window.

Back then, the 21-year-old was in impressive form for the Black Cats with 16 goals from 24 league appearances and that contributed to the high-profile move to the French Ligue 1 with Bordeaux.

The Nigeria international has since bagged just nine goals from 33 outings for Les Girondins but he has been restricted to only 11 starts for the club across all competitions.

Neil Lennon’s side are understood to prioritise a new contract for Edouard this summer but they could be tempted to sanction his departure, should any interested club meet their asking price.

On the other hand, Maja could be purchased from Les Girondins for a relatively cheaper sum, considering he has yet to establish himself as a regular with the French outfit.

Meanwhile, Rangers have also been credited with an interest in the London-born ace as they face the possibility of losing their key goalscorer in Alfredo Morelos during the next transfer window.

Ultimately, it could come to the playing time and which of the two clubs is prepared to guarantee Maja a regular run of starts in the Premiership next term.
