Celtic are interested in signing Manchester City defender Ko Itakura this summer.

According to Daily Record, Ange Postecoglou is looking to sign the Japanese international on a temporary deal, but City reportedly want a hefty loan fee.

The Hoops have already improved their centre-back department with the signing of Carl Starfelt from Rubin Kazan.

However, they will need to add more quality and depth at the back to challenge for the title next season.

Star defender Kristoffer Ajer has joined Brentford, and Postecoglou needs to bring in quality reinforcements.

Itakura is currently away on international duty at the Olympics, and his future is unlikely to be sorted anytime soon.

The 24-year-old was on loan at Groningen last season and was quite impressive for the Dutch outfit.

Postecoglou is also looking to improve his full-back department, and Sheffield United defender George Baldock has been mentioned as a key target.

Itakura is unlikely to get regular playing time at City, and another loan move would be ideal for his development.

A move to Celtic would be ideal, and regular game time at the Scottish club could see him return to City as an improved player.
