Carlo Ancelotti is set to be confirmed as the new head-coach of Real Madrid within next few weeks, and the Italian will consider making Wayne Rooney his first signing at the new club, reports Daily Mail.

The 27-year-old is reportedly unsettled at Manchester United and has hinted of leaving the club in the summer.

Real Madrid are targeting to spend big in the summer and would ideally like to bring in Tottenham’s Gareth Bale or Liverpool’s Luis Suarez to bolster the attacking options; but the possibility of signing Rooney cannot be ruled out altogether.

Reports have emerged in the English media that Rooney is eyeing for a shock move to Chelsea as the England international wants to work under Jose Mourinho.

London club Arsenal have also registered their interest in the former Everton star. Arsene Wenger, with his reported £70million transfer war-chest, could match Rooney’s £30million transfer valuation but the Frenchman probably won’t entertain the idea of matching his £250,000-a-week wages.

Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are also keen to sign him, but given a choice of moving abroad, Rooney would probably pick the La Liga giants, without giving any second thoughts.

According to reports from The Sun, Rooney will hold an important discussion about his future with new manager David Moyes next week.

Moyes is due back from holiday on Monday and the Scotsman wants to sort out Rooney’s situation first before Manchester United’s pre-season training, that starts in the first week of July.

Rooney has been at the Old Trafford club for nine years and has still two-years left on his contract. He tried to engineer a move in 2010-11 but made a dramatic U-turn to pen down a new five-year contract at the club until June 2015.

Rooney probably understands that this is his last chance (keeping his age in mind) to make a big money move elsewhere. He has already achieved everything at United and might be tempted to earn more glory with other big clubs in Europe.
