Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers remains optimistic about finishing in top four this season. Following his side’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal yesterday, the former Swansea manager claimed that a Champions League place is still within the reach for his team and returning forward Daniel Sturridge is set to play a key role from January.

Rodgers was bullish about his team’s chances and replied with “Yes, absolutely,” when asked about Liverpool’s top four chances. Further, the Northern Irishman also stated that it is going to be a big challenge for Liverpool, but one that the team are up for.

Rodgers outlined Liverpool’s form post January last season and claimed that the club is capable of going on a run.

“In the second half of last season, we went on a run of 11 wins and the most important thing is the confidence”, he said.

The Liverpool manager also revealed that Daniel Sturridge is on his way to Boston and is set to move on to the next phase of his rehab.

“Bring Sturridge back in January and we can get back to being that team. His rehab has been done in Los Angeles and he is now going to Boston and he will move on to a specialist facility there”.

Rodgers also confirmed that the club are expecting Daniel Sturridge to be back in action at some point in January.

“Hopefully in the early part of the New Year, he will be back. At some point in January, we will get him back.”

Brendan Rodgers’ side has lacked a genuine goalscoring presence upfront this season. Departure of Luis Suarez and injury to Sturridge has left the Reds with striking options of Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini, all of whom have failed to provide goals for the Merseyside outfit.

The Reds have shown in their last few games against Manchester United and Arsenal that the team has plenty of creativity, but the lack of sharpness in front of goal has cost them valuable points against their top four rivals.

Whether Liverpool manage to break into top four remains to be seen, but Sturridge’s return would be a welcome boost for Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool fans across the world.
