Manchester United have made their first move in their renewed pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

Sancho joined Dortmund from Manchester City in 2017. He broke into the starting XI shortly afterwards and has since become one of the brightest young forwards in the world.

Since his move to the Bundesliga, the Englishman has scored 38 goals and recorded a further 45 assists.

This form has earned him 19 caps for the England national team and two inclusions in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.

Manchester United have been linked with the 21-year-old for some time now and have now made a bid, according to retired Norwegian footballer Jan Aage Fjortoft on Twitter.

However, he claims that the bid is €20 million short of the initial asking price, with bonuses also yet to be agreed.

Last summer, the Red Devils spent most of the transfer window trying to bring the winger to Old Trafford.

However, they refused to meet Dortmund’s €120m asking price, and he stayed in Germany for another season.

One year on, and they are once again in for his signature. This time around, it is believed that the Black and Yellows are willing to accept a lower fee.

Sancho would be a big coup for Man Utd, who need a new right-winger.

Marcus Rashford has often played there but is better on the left, while youngster Mason Greenwood has also filled in on the right but prefers to play through the middle.

Youngster Amad Diallo has shown promise but is still unproven at the highest level.

Next season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men will be looking to improve on last year’s display.

They finished second in the Premier League, 12 points off bitter rivals Man City, and lost in the Europa League final to Villarreal.

They will be desperate to get some silverware in the cabinet, having not won a trophy since 2017.
