Olympiacos v Bordeaux
UEFA Champions League Round of 16 First Leg
Karaiskakis Stadium – Piraeus, Greece
23 February 2010 – 19:45 GMT

Two teams not expected to contend for the title meet in the UEFA Champions League as Olympiacos hosts Bordeaux.

Olympiacos v Bordeaux Preview

Greek side Olympiacos looks to start off strong in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 with the first leg at home. Olympiacos were second in Group H, three points behind Arsenal, and a 3-1-2 record. French side Bordeaux were much stronger in the group stage with a 5-1-0 record and winning Group A by 16 points (included Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Maccabi Haifa).

Neither team is expected to reach the semifinals or a threat to challenge to win the competition. Bordeaux were probably picked third to finish their group but have proven thesmelves. Their defense as the key to their group stage success as they conceded only two goals in six matches. They will need a similar performance in the first leg as Olympiacos is a tough team at home.

Olympiacos was also strong defensively but needs to pick up their attack if they want to advance to the quarterfinals. In the group stage, they only scored four goals in five matches (only one of these on the road). If they head to Bordeaux for the second leg without a one or two goal lead, their chances are slim.

This is not an easy match to predict but Olympiacos should be able to get a lead. Bordeaux will be playing for a draw and the match should be a slim victory for home team.
