Barcelona like Manchester United are desperate to do some rebuilding works. Ever since their transfer ban was lifted, the Catalan club have been linked with several top players in Europe and elsewhere. There could be few departures as well, like Cesc Fabregas or may be Alexis Sanchez, which would help them recoup money to land top players.

Catalan based newspaper Mundo Deportivo reports today that Barcelona are keeping close tabs on German duo Thomas Muller and Marco Reus, both are reported targets of Manchester United.

The 24-year-old versatile Muller, who is valued around €45m, is unhappy with the limited role he has in Guardiola’s Bayern Munich team and he wants to move in case that doesn’t change.

He has scored 13 goals in 25 starts but wants clarification, whether the club views him as an “essential component of the first XI” for next season. He said in a recent interview to German magazine Stern

“I have reached the point where I want to know if I am an essential component of the Bayern Munich first XI for the new season and if the club has plans for me over the coming years,”

“That’s why I will be out to have a meeting. I am not the type of guy that says: ‘All right, I have played a good part and will keep my mouth shut and everyone else is able to do with me whatever he wants.’ As a Munich boy your test at Bayern Munich is always a bit tougher, but we [players from the youth academy] are the grassroots of this club.”

“It’s no secret that Louis van Gaal and I have a relationship that goes a little beyond the normal relationship between coaches and players,” he added.

Barcelona see him as a potential attacking midfielder replacement for Cesc Fabregas, whose future has been well speculated in the media and could leave in summer, with Chelsea could be his possible destination.

Marco Reus, on the other hand, would fit in any attacking position in the Barcelona system, and the Catalan club have been following him closely for a long time.

The 25-year-old has been a target of Manchester United as well, with The Times reporting back in November, the Red Devils are keen to land him at Old Trafford.

Mundo Deportivo reports, Reus has a release clause of €35m while on Monday, Barcelona Television announced Barca already have an agreement with the German International. The problem is Dortmund have no intention to sell him and it’d take a huge financial effort to get him, while negotiating with Bayern for Muller would be easier.
