La Liga giants Atletico Madrid haven’t given up on their hopes of signing Diego Costa. The Rojiblancos are looking to sign a striker this summer and are linked with some of the high profile names like Carlos Bacca, Kevin Gameiro, Mauro Icardi, and Gonzalo Higuain but Costa remains Diego Simeone’s first choice target.

Costa has a contract at Chelsea till 2019 and the Blues have no intentions of selling the player they signed in 2014 for €38m from Atletico Madrid. The Spain striker didn’t enjoy a spectacular 2015/16 season but still ended up scoring 12 Premier League goals for the Blues. According to reports from Spanish newspaper AS, Costa is keen to return to Spain and the striker has even conveyed his feeling to Chelsea hierarchy.

Costa, however, doesn’t want to force through a move and is happy to wait for the right moment. Chelsea have already rejected Atletico’s initial offer but the Rojiblancos are likely to return with an improved bid. Chelsea have already signed Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi but unless they land another top level striker the London giants won’t listen to any offers for Costa.

Chelsea will start the pre-season campaign against Rapid Vienna at Allianz Stadium on Saturday where Costa will likely to take part. The striker will be travelling with the Blues for the pre-season tour to the US as well. Atletico are following closely Costa’s every move as he remains one of the top strikers in the market who are within Atletico’s affordable range.
