Premier League club Aston Villa have had an approach for AS Roma forward Gervinho rebuffed by the Italian capital outfit, according to Corriere dello Sport via a report from Sky Sports.

The former Arsenal forward is a wanted man in Villa manager Tim Sherwood’s books but it is believed the Birmingham-based outfit’s £10m offer was not high enough for Roma to consider.

The 28-year-old’s previous stint in the Premier League was with Arsenal, whom he joined in the summer of 2011 but after two less-than-impressive years in north London, he was moved to Rome.

Roma have already signed a number of forwards this summer including Iago Falque, Mohamed Salah and Edin Dzeko and might be willing to let the Ivorian leave, but Villa would have to cough up more than they offered to prize away their target.

Gervinho played 34 times in all competitions for the Giallorossi last season, scoring seven goals and providing six assists. His international commitments coupled with two separate injuries meant the winger missed a third of his club’s league games in 2014/15.

Aston Villa have had a shaky start to their 2015/16 season and lost two of their opening three fixtures of the league campaign. With just two goals scored in three games so far, Sherwood’s eyes on Gervinho is understandable as the Ivory Coast international will inject pace and creativity to his side.
