Nathaniel Clyne

Arsenal can help Manchester United signing their long-term transfer target Nathaniel Clyne in the summer window.

The Southampton defender has been impressive in the last few seasons and was in fine form during the 2014-15 campaign. Clyne’s display has seen him attract interest from Louis van Gaal’s side.

Louis van Gaal also had the idea of landing free agent Dani Alves. However, the Brazilian international ended the speculation surrounding his future  after he signed a two-year deal at Barcelona, following the Catalan club’s Champions League’s final victory over Juventus.

Alves’ snub has forced United to rekindle their interest in signing Clyne. The 24-year-old has one year left on his contract and has not signed a new deal to extend his stay at St Mary’s Stadium.

Southampton are set to lose Clyne after he rejected a chance to sign a new deal. Ronald Koeman has identified Carl Jenkinson as a replacement for Clyne at the club, according to the Guardian.

The South Coast club wants to sign Arsenal defender on-loan after Jenkinson impressed during his season-long loan spell at West Ham United. Arsene Wenger signed Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle United last summer.

However, the French international suffered two massive injury blows, which kept him out of action for most part of the previous campaign. The situation forced the Gunners manager to play Héctor Bellerín, who has been exceptional for the north London club in the right-back position.

With the emergence of Bellerín and the availability of Debuchy, it is unlikely that Jenkinson could get a place in the starting lineup or even on the bench. Southampton are aware of the situation and thus wants to give Arsenal defender a chance to join them on-loan.
