Arsenal: Title Contenders Or Great Pretenders?

With Arsenal sitting on top of the Premier League table debate is raging whether Arsene Wenger’s young team can take Chelsea and Manchester United all the way in the race to this season’s title.

Having not lost in the league since November its Arsenal’s next four games that will tell us whether they have what it takes as The Gunners prepare to face Aston Villa, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool in a crucial run of big games. Paddy Power are offering 25/1 that Arsenal win all four of the key games whilst its 5/1 that the wheels come off the title challenge and Arsenal fail to win any of the matches.

Of the four games the bookie considers that winning the Liverpool game only is the most likely at 11/2 whilst it’s 8/1 Arsenal win the two home games of the four against Man Utd and Liverpool.

With five goals in Arsenal’s last four matches Arsenal’s captain fantastic Cesc Fabregas will no doubt play an important part in The Gunners’ big run of games. Fabregas is 9/2 to score three goals over the next four games whilst its 5/2 that the opposition stifle Arsenal’s key man and he fails to get on the score sheet.

Title Race Latest

Despite sitting at the top of the table, at least until United play Hull this weekend, Arsenal are 3/1 joint second favourites to win the title alongside the champions Manchester United. Such is the tough run of games ahead that Arsenal are 7/1 to still be top of the table come February 12th after their four big games have been played.

Chelsea remain the odds-on favourites at 4/5. Of the three clubs chasing the title Arsenal have been the most popular bet amongst punters having attracted 21% of all bets placed on the Premier League title race compared to 13% for Chelsea and just 12% for United.

Paddy Power said: “It’s rare not to see United dominating the betting especially given they are the champions and could go top of the table this weekend but despite what anyone says punters aren’t fools and know they are watching a team in decline compared to last season. Without doubt it’s Arsenal who are the team the bookies are fearing the most right now.”
