Arsenal end 2013 on top of the Premier League table after their hard-fought 1-0 win over Newcastle on Sunday, and will look to continue good form as the new year comes into focus.
It has been an up-and-down 2013, but for the most part Arsene Wenger will be pleased with how his side has performed.
Here are three New Year’s Resolutions for the north Londoners for 2014.
End the silverware drought
It has been a long eight years since Arsenal fans were treated to silverware, with the 2005 FA Cup success feeling like a distant memory for the Emirates Stadium faithful.
Although big tournaments like the Premier League and Champions League will be in Wenger’s sights, it is important that Arsenal stop the rot and try to win a trophy this season.
Resolve Bacary Sagna’s contract solution
Bacary Sagna has been an unsung hero in Arsenal’s storm up the table, but has the opportunity to leave north London on a free transfer next summer.
The France international has still not put pen to paper on a new Gunners’ deal, and this needs to be a matter or urgency for the club.
If Sagna is to leave in the summer, a top-quality right-back will need to be added in the summer, as the full-back will be a major loss.
Get Jack Wilshere fit
Homegrown star Jack Wilshere has seemingly put his injury concerns behind him and has featured in 16 Premier League games for the club this season.
Despite this, the England international does not yet look back to 100 per cent sharpness, with more regular football needed to see the midfielder back to his best.
A fully functional, confident and on-form Wilshere could have just as substantial an impact as Aaron Ramsey has this season, and would be a boost for England’s World Cup campaign also.
