Transfer deadline day looms large for Arsenal. While the Gunner are in desperate need of a striker, reports from Portuguese media outlet O Jogo has published a story in wee hours of the night claiming that Joel Campbell has urged manager Arsene Wenger to let him leave the London club.

The Costa Rican is desperate for more game time on the pitch after an impressive World Cup. Despite having a great loan spell on Olympiakos last season scoring 8 goals in 32 appearances, the 22 year old finds himself down the pecking order and second choice to Yaya Sanogo.

O Jogo had earlier claimed that Benfica were willing to pay €10m for the player’s services but should any deal now go through, it surely appears to be on loan.

Benfica manager Jorge Jesus is desperate to sign a striker who can replace the departed Rodrigo Moreno (to Valencia) and has identified Campbell to forge a striking partnership with Lima up front.

However any such decision solely depends on Arsene Wenger as Arsenal themselves are in the hunt for a recognized striker after Olivier Giroud’s long term injury.
