Arsenal prepare late attempt to snatch £50m Chelsea target duo

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had hinted yesterday in the press conference that he could delve into the transfer market again before the window closes.

The injury to Spaniard Mikel Arteta has forced Wenger to rethink about his midfield options. According to The Telegraph, Arsenal are monitoring both William Carvalho and Sami Khedira and might make a move for either one of them or both.

Portugal newspaper A Bola reported yesterday that Sporting have rejected a €25m offer from Arsenal for Carvalho. Although they are demanding €45m, which is the player’s release clause, they might be willing to sell him for £28m at one go.

The problem with this deal is, Arsenal are willing to pay the money in two instalments. Sporting only own 60% of the player’s economic rights so it won’t fetch them enough profits, unless the amount is transferred at once.

Likewise, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has revealed yesterday that Sami Khedira could be sold, should he refuse to sign a new contract at the Bernabeu.

Arsenal had earlier made enquiries about Khedira, but were put off by the financial package involved and his injury record.

In July The Times claimed that Arsenal were willing to pay £23m for Khedira while Chelsea were also interested in signing him as well.

Chelsea were also mentioned as one of the interested parties for William Carvalho as well, but hard to see the Blues making move for either of them or both.
