Chelsea winger Andre Schurrle is set to miss the upcoming international break in order to recover from a flu. According to German website Kicker, Schurrle sustained this virus in his last stint with the national side, and has never fully recovered. Having consulted with German coach Joachim Loew, the 24 year-old has taken the decision to stay back in London and fully recuperate from this persistent problem.

Schurrle has struggled to get into the first team at Stamford Bridge in recent weeks, with Jose Mourinho preferring to start with Willian on the right-wing. A major reason for his lack of form is said to be the virus, and getting back into contention to play for Chelsea is high on Schurrle’s agenda. The midfielder will miss games against Gibraltar on Friday and against Spain on Tuesday, for the World Champions.

Reports yesterday stated that Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund may be looking at the option of signing Schurrle next summer if they are forced to sell Marco Reus. Chelsea may be interested in signing the latter, who will be available for a cut-back price following the end of this season.

A lot was expected out of Schurrle this season by the Blues, but after a solid start, the German has faded recently. Whether he will be back to his old self after completely recovering from his virus though, remains to be seen.
