Earlier this month it was reported that Louis Van Gaal had contacted the Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez about a potential transfer to Manchester United.

Now it seems that Sanchez is close to signing a new five year deal with Arsenal after agreeing a deal in principle.

Mirror have claimed that Sanchez has already agreed a bumper new deal with Arsenal and will put pen to paper soon. The new deal will seem him earn in the region of 150,000 pounds per week, a 20,000 pounds pay rise on his current deal.

Since joining Arsenal from Barcelona, Alexis Sanchez has been in sensational form and is attracting plenty of interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United.

The Chilean is easily one of the best players in the Premier League and Arsenal are reluctant to let go of him. Arsenal are therefore looking to thrash out bumper new deals for their key players.

After Sanchez, Mesut Ozil is also expected to sign a contract extension which will make him the highest paid player at Arsenal.

Sanchez’s deal will put him second on the list of high earners at Emirates.

Louis Van Gaal has previously stated that his side are in desperate need of a quick and agile wide forward and Spanish media reported that the Dutchman had spoken to Sanchez about a move and promised to build a side around him.

If the reports are true, it seems Alexis was not quite convinced with Van Gaal’s assurances and has decided to further his stay at Arsenal.

The Chilean is a world class player and Arsenal fans will no doubt be happy with his decision to commit his long term future to the Gunners.
