Alan Hutton reacts to Edouard’s demand for a Celtic release-clause

Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has been linked with a move away this summer.

Apparently, the Scottish club want to offer him a new deal and keep him beyond this season.

As per Football Insider, Edouard is demanding a release clause in his new deal and Celtic are not keen on that.

Alan Hutton reckons that Celtic might find it difficult to agree on a deal with the striker if they do not agree to a release clause.

He said to Football Insider: “I think when you put a release clause in, it is what it is, every team will then know the figure they have to come up with.

“Celtic as a business, as a club, they’ll want the biggest money possible for him, a bidding war, whatever you want to call it.

“It pretty much puts all the cards in Edouard’s hands because he can look exactly what the figure is. There’s no messing about then – any club that comes in for him just has to agree that clause and then he can speak to them.

“I can see why Celtic wouldn’t want to put something like that in but the only way around it is you put a bigger one in! The only thing is Edouard would have to agree to it so it’s a tricky situation.”

It is understandable why Celtic do not want to insert a release clause in Edouard’s contract. It would give Edouard and his suitors the power to complete a transfer whenever they want.

The Scottish club would rather invite a bidding war if they are forced to sell their prized asset. They will want to recoup as much as they can for him.

Edouard is unlikely to agree to any unreasonable release clause and therefore Celtic will not benefit from it.

The Frenchman is a top-class talent and he has been in red hot form this season. The top clubs will be aware of his exploits and they will be hoping to snap him up for a reasonable fee this summer.

Edouard has scored 28 goals in all competitions for Celtic so far.
