Edinson Cavani is a great striker. He doesn’t get enough chances at PSG in his favourite #9 role, but he still scores a lot of goals. At least 20-25 goals are guaranteed from him, if not more.
This could be his last season at PSG. Cavani has never demanded publicly about a move away from PSG, but he is getting frustrated with lack of opportunities in his favoured role. He understands that there are several top clubs out in the market who are ready to give him that opportunity.
Cavani has been linked with a host of top European clubs, but not many of them can afford to pay his high weekly wages and meet PSG’s asking price. Very few clubs in the world would be willing to pay £35m for a 29-year-old striker, no matter how good he is. From financial point of view, the signing would represent a huge gamble.
Reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano notes in his blog for Calciomercato that Serie A giants Juventus have the necessary funds with them to sign Cavani. The Old Lady are ready to pay him high wages, and are looking to make a formal approach to sign the striker.
Romano mentions that Premier League clubs Chelsea and Manchester United are Juve’s biggest obstacles in their attempt to sign the former Napoli striker.
Cavani’s father recently said in an interview that he would want his son to join either Real Madrid or Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Tuttomercato reports that Chelsea are already in contact with Edinson Cavani’s representatives, and the Blues might reach an agreement with the PSG striker shortly before other interested parties jump in.
It remains to be seen whether United or Chelsea make any formal bid for the player. Cavani may also stay with PSG next season, provided Swede star Ibrahimovic leave the French champions. Cavani could also join Juventus, as he might prefer Champions League football, which Chelsea or Manchester United may fail to provide him next season.
