Craig Bellamy. Lucas Neill. Mathew Upson. Luis Boa Morte. Scott Parker. What do they have in common?
Darren Bent. Carlos Tevez. Nigel Reo-Coker. Yossi Benayoun. What do they have in common?
The first group have come to West Ham because West Ham are ‘an ambitious club’ and because they will get playing time and the chance to be leaders.
The second group have either left West Ham, want to leave West Ham or turned down West Ham because they wanted to play at bigger clubs and go for glory.
Who is going in the right direction? Discuss.
Wait…what? You want that pic again? You dirty bastard.
Hmm, where were we? Ah yes, West Ham…
Question
Ahmed what does the picture have to do with the Thread?
😛
Who cares if it has anything to do with the thread or not?
Villa – who cares ?
who said villa are a big club?
whoever it was needs locking up!!
they no bigger or better than west ham..reo coker simply left west ham BECUASE WE DIDNT WANT HIM..stop talking shite and get a grip…seems the whole world anti west ham at the moment and the target of crap articles like this.
Darren Bent. Carlos Tevez. Nigel Reo-Coker. Yossi Benayoun. What do they have in common?
None have really proved themselves in the prem?, all had a good first season (Tevez more like the last 10 games) NRC was missing for 80% of last season while Yossi only managed a decent 10 games. going to Villa is ambition? being a Liverpool squad player is ambition? Ill save judgement until Xmas, maybe then the answer will be obvious
Well Mathew Upson and Luis Boa Morte you could argue they made a sideways/small up move at the time whereas Craig Bellamy Lucas Neill and Scott Parker a sideways move, but ALL going to a club that is looking and expected to do MUCH better.
Carlos Tevez and Yossi Benayoun, are looking to get in on success already established and so are looking for that quick fix of medals without the hard work.
Whereas Darren Bent has been duped by a one off good season as Spurs and Nigel Reo-Coker has just f*cked up going to nobodys
All seems reasonable enough to me. Tevez had West Ham down for a stepping stone from day 1. Even pre arrival his language was all about how well his style would fit the Prem rather than making nonsensical claims about how much he wanted to wear the claret and blue.. I find it hard to believe any West Ham fan would not be pleased to close the book on the relationship with Joorabchian, the obvious remaining link to the cast of scoundrels who ran our club (nearly into the ground) before Eggy came along.
Benayoun is a fantastic player but we have already bought a replacement, in Faubert, for a player who lost his way with us last season. Good riddance to NRC too who has hosed himself in disgrace with his comments over the last few weeks… This was our central midfield playing captain who went 27 minutes (Count ’em!!!) without touching the ball in the second half of a game we lost. As for Bent… for the money we would have parted with for him we will get Bellamy and AN Other. Got to be good value when you think that he will be paired with ashton, a much more natural partner for him than Bent would have provided.
Like fans should at this time of year I am focussed on your other list.. which comprises quality players at their peak… Players of a standard to convince the next Darren Bent we are talking to that we are worthy of consideration for an ambitious youngster or for a seasoned pro (and Idont mean a Teddy Sheringham). We are clearly on the hunt for a left back, left midfield, one more central midfield and a nother striker. When the shopping is done I passionately believe we will have the best eleven we have had since we won the World Cup.
Bring it on!!!!
Nice try to stir the pot but somewhat misconceived?
Benayoun and NRC have something in common – they have both just had terrible seasons for their club.
They both have serious attitude problems and questionable loyalty.
Benayoun – if you hadn’t noticed – repeatedly cried off injured at WHU but still managed to play for his country within a few days. Do you want a player like that.
He has gone to a bigger club but do you seriously think he will play more than a bit part in their squad. The clock is now ticking on his “top flight” career.
NRC – gone to a bigger club:-)
Only turned up 4 times last season, Man U and Arsenal home and away. Funny, the two big clubs he wanted to join but who didn’t want him.
Lets see who does better next season
JPW
“Football players are not necessarily greedy or heartless. However, their first responsibility is to themselves, their own career and ambitions, and as such they do ‘whatever it takes’ to meet those goals – sometimes at the cost of abandoning their club”.
Recognise those words?
Yes, you wrote them you doughnut (July 2nd).
Tevez & Benayoun want to sign for two of the biggest clubs in the world. How does that reflect badly on West Ham?.
Reo Coker had to leave because he was told that he wouldn’t be in the starting eleven in September, i.e. we ditched him.
But, don’t let the facts get in the way of a good whinge eh?
absolutely fuck all. I was looking for a pic to suit this article and found this one.
This site seems to be joing the Daily Mail in an anti-West Ham vendetta. I hope Ahmed doesn’t get paid to write mindless junk like this….you are to journalism what Atilla the Hun was to babysitting
Darren Bent cut short his holiday to talk to WHU and almost signed, when he found out they were not offering the money that the rubbish rags and all the other anti WHU ‘media’ said they were offering he went to Spuds, his original first choice. Who cares that he( again, according to the rubbish rags) didn’t get on with Curbishley. Who else wanted him at that price?
Re Tevez. Cast your minds back almost a year and you will find that we all knew he would be with us for a season at the most (the rubbish rags were happy to remind us of that fact) the ‘old regime’ got him and Masch because their ‘owners’ needed a stage for them to prove they could hack it in the prem.
NRC was upset that he wasn’t allowed to talk to Arsenal who were interested in him. He then had an indifferent season to say the least. Got slated because he kept disappearing during games. Good player but overrated. (at the moment, O’Neil should bring out the best in him, please note no one else wanted him and by the way he ain’t worth 8 Million) He let his agent influence him too much.
Benayoun has allegedly been tapped up by Liverpool. Good player. Mostly average season. Apparently not fit enough to play for WHU, but always recovered enough to play for Israel. Speaks Spanish so will fit in. Will he enjoy being rotated in the most blandest of Liverpool side for decades? We will see.
Lucas Neil and Craig Bellamy are both captains of their respective nations. Neil into the world cup finals. Bellamy played in the Champion’s League. There is no need for either to impress anyone on the ‘international stage. After this season and especially the last few months, I can spot an anti WHU thread from a mile off. Is it SO inconceivable that there are players that want to come to WH because we we are looking to build something?. If you really believe that those two players are taking home, well, it could be as much as almost 200k between them a week if any of the ‘rumours’ are to be believed then you ain’t right in the head.
Actually, you know what? I don’t know why I’m wasting my time with this rubbish site and crap thread as I just noticed the “Pissing it away etc’ article – no we didn’t win 9 games we won 7.
LoL at the photo
Reo-Coker left because West Ham said “we don’t want youâ€. A mediocre player who said he wanted a “top 4†Club and went sideways.
Tevez is a great player and said he was happy at West Ham but who’s going to turn down Man Utd, where he will eventually end up after a court case? Don’t blame him and it doesn’t reflect badly on West Ham.
Bent didn’t sign because he thought he’d have a better chance of Chumps League at the end of THIS season with Spurs, ditto Benayoun with Liverpool.
However, Bellamy and Neill are indeed leaders and want to play regular football. It’s so patronising to them to make fun of that choice. If you were a multi-millionaire already would you want to do what you love to do i.e. play football every week, at West Ham, or get splinters in your arse at Liverpool? Yossi’s gonna need a pillow the amount of time he’ll be spending on the bench.
Parker made a sideways move back home to London while Upson and Boa Morte both moved from smaller Clubs which is self-explanatory.
And Faubert, our £6 million signing who everyone who doesn’t follow the red tops forgets, is an ambitious young France international who turned down Roma to join West Ham.
They’re all at different stages in their careers. Hence making different choices.
12 months ago West Ham could not have hoped to sign Bellamy or Neill or Faubert due to low salaries (relatively) and because we could not demonstrate ambition to get into the Chumps League. Now we can do both and people are getting all upset about “little†West Ham upsetting the apple cart.
Good post fifth column. Spot on.

I’ve started so I’ll finish by saying leave us alone, go and slag off another club, there’s plenty of unrest over at the emirates go pick on them next season

The reason people get on the spammers back is because you did cheat slightly to stay in the prem (not judging, Id want my team to do whatever it took to stay in the top flight) and that you do pay over the odds and wages for players. Lucas neil 80k matthew upson and louis boa well over priced. You also drove the price of bent up so instead of 10-12 mil my team spurs had to pay silly money, though you cant critisize the boys attitude as this is spurs best chance of breaking the top 4. That said uefa cup football is a realistic target for you and scott parker (im a spurs fan yet twice have gone to other clubs hmmm) is a quality signing and bellemy for 7.5mil while benayoun gettin 4mil back is good business. I dont think teams are scared, just aggravated by you! Still curbishly is a good manager, your signings are good and as long as you give spurs 6points in our quest for CL place Lol then i’ll happily wish you luck for the coming season.
yossi benayoun was a legend
is the least that could be sed. his exalent presition in the way he played football was emaculate u could have not picked out a more talanted player on the globe.

Can I have the picture of her taken 15 minutes later.
I can’t work out if jack saunderson is:
a) a wind-up
b) Yossi’s 9 year old brother
c) a dislexic, autistic 8 year old with a fixation on Israeli footballers
The way he combined the words ‘immaculate’ and ‘ejaculate’ to come up with the word “emaculate” was particularly entertaining.
9/10 for effort… so good I almost emaculated.
Mis-spelling the word “dyslexic” – the irony
Totally agree with you Bryan,it’s all anti West Ham,and it’s a load of old bollocks as usual from the anti west ham lot.Big clubs? watch how big west ham grow in the next two years and thats what scares the shite out of those glory hunters
Sadly these pics don’t show up on our RSS feeds. I had to visit the main page for that. Kindly fix it. 🙂
“If you were a multi-millionaire already would you want to do what you love to do i.e. play football every week, at West Ham, or get splinters in your arse at Liverpool? Yossi’s gonna need a pillow the amount of time he’ll be spending on the bench.”
What’s bad with being ambitious and having the stomach to fight for a place in the top-four team ?? Though I wont criticise Bellamy/Neill who have come to knock top-four off their fucking perch with West Ham; even greater courage.
Wow. I imagine Ahmed expects to get shit on a lot, but this sets a new bar. Read the fucking post again people. Ahmed wrote a total of 115 words, almost the shortest blog ever, most of which was dedicated to discussion of some ugly slapper exposing herself. The rest of the post asked put forth two things commonly accepted as fact (that Neil and the like went to West Ham to try to rebuild a club into something great whilst the others left/avoided West Ham to go to join already established squads) and then asked which was the better choice.
Obviously, the fact that some are at the start of their careers whilst others at the end makes the question pretty much impossible to answer – and, let’s face it, all the questions that get the most discussion have no real answer.
But how the fuck could a single one of those 115 words be thought as a biased attack on West Ham United?
villa a big club going for glory?????? i dont think so. Tottenham getting into the top 4 like darren bent thinks???????? i dont think so.
And if yossi wants to be a squad player at a huge club, then so be it, good on him. and tevez he is out of that genre of players because he is world class and he is the only person who will be furthering himself for title etc……… and west ham is going to be pushing for europe within the next couple of years, hense the calabra of players we are getting!!!!!!
bob, what are you on about and tevez is an international player who has won south american player twice in a row at the age of 22 and darren bent was the highest goalscoring englishmen the season before, nigel reo-coker lead westam to the fa cup final at the age of 22 and lead englands u21 to the semi finals of the european cup. So frankly they have have proven themselves in England and they have done more than the other westham players.
D Beech
I imagine it is taken as criticism of West Ham as his headline for the article was,
“West Ham – beacon for squad players as ambitious players bail out”
Agreed that the content was fine… obviously just to provoke debate which it indeed has done.
Also, the top earner at West Ham is on £55K p/w basic wages. That goes for Neill et al.
It appears true that Bent and Tevez were offered more than that but no-one at West Ham on more than £55K.
Everything else is media ####
28 (DBeech) – I expected worse, to be honest.
31 (FC) – the idea was debate, yes. the players coming into west ham are players who didn’t want to be squad players elsewhere. players going out are those who want to play for their ambitions (whether villa is going to finish above west ham or not is a separate debate, although a lot of it will center around O’Neill vs Curbishley).
it’s one perspective – lumping it as anti-westham tripe without bothering to establish context is, well…typical 🙂
#12 – absolutely loved the comparison to Attila the Hun, which is why your comment came through (it’s worthless otherwise, mind you).
Mr Bilal, I’m going to make an assumption that you support Manure or Liverpool. Hence the fact that no mention whatsoever is made of the fact that both teams are guilty of tapping up Tevez and Benayoun respectively. We all know Sir Alex does it non-stop (he even admits to it in as many word in his autobographies). Now we know Rafa does too, or else why would Yossi renege on a verbal agreement to sign a new contract by saying he wants to join Liverpool. West Ham are very much in the media spotlight at the moment and its overwhelmingly negative. The media seem to forget that this whole issue was caused by a previous regime that was universally hated by WHU fans. Having said that, we expressed serious reservations about a Kia consortium takeover, unlike Man City and, who are obviously desperate to come out of Manure shadow.
What I find dissapointing, is that this site is obviously written by fans for fans, but, the arrogance shown by fans of the Top 4 when discussing the attempts of ‘lesser’ teams to improve their situation is disgusting.
Your not superior because you support one of the Top 4, in my eyes, you are inferior because your just a mindless sheep not making his own decisions, but thats by the by. Dont look down on other teams, thats part of the reason that your team is despised by other teams fans.
The only other time I have been on this site was when some wrote the most obnoxious, unresearched article calling all West Ham fans rascist. I’m asian, and whilst that doesnt preclude me from being rascist, the fact that I exist must be surprise to your colleague.
Your point 32, that it wasnt an anti West Ham article? Thats the way it looks, and anyone who believes that are entitled to that opinion.
I’m not particularly anti-West Ham. More anti-poor management and anti-total lack of ambition (OK and I can’t see why people keep buying Bellamy, based on his goals/appearances record he’ll get about 12 this season – hardly principal striker material)
In my opinion it’s perfectly reasonable to criticise ANY team that is underperforming and not doing anything to improve.
To all those rabid West Ham fans – perhaps people are having a dig because they can see what you can’t – these signings will get you nowhere
Toby
Last year we signed Tyrone Mears, John Paintsil, John Spector and a range of #### players. Greene was the only decent one.
This year, we have Bellamy, Faubert, Parker, Neill, Upson, Boa Morte.
Which are better players? What you may mean is “these signings will not qualify you for the Champions League”. However, they are clearly an improvement on 12 months ago and will therefore improve the squad and team so they will get us somewhere.
As comment 34 posted, this site is full of people who know little about football (someone describing the crossbar as the “top post” was just superb) and think that if you’re not in the top 4 then you’re “nowhere”.
Good on our NEW chairman and our NEW manager – neither of whom had anything to do with the dodgy deal and who have conducted themselves with dignity.
When I read this article I was reading it from a bare-bones rss feeder and didn’t see the title. Now that I have I think it’s typical of the unfounded, salacious “reporting” that Bilal drudges out week after week. 🙂
No, seriously. I should probably apologize for cracking the shits. I could see how, based on that title, they could take that as an offence against their club.
