Werder Bremen star Mezut Ozil interested in a move to England

Werder Bremen play maker and World Cup semi-finalist Mezut Ozil has revealed that he would not say no to a move to Premier League powerhouses Manchester United or Chelsea.

The 21 year-old enjoyed a sensational World Cup with Germany, and helped his team reach the semi-finals in South Africa and has been linked with a move to Spanish Giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, as well as Manchester United and Chelsea in England.

Ozil still has a year on his current contract with Werder Bremen, and just like what happened with Khedira and Stuttgart, Bremen might have to sell him fearing he might leave the club for free next season.

A number of huge European clubs have generated interest in the 21 year-old and Ozil is relishing a move to Chelsea or United.

He said to the Daily Star Sunday:

“There are four or five clubs in Europe that you would have to say as a player would be a dream to play for. Manchester United and Chelsea are very much two of them.”

“When you are looking at moving clubs it’s impossible not to pay attention to the Premier League and even more impossible not to pay attention to Manchester United and Chelsea.”

“I am a winner and, when I am looking for a new club, I simply look at where I can be the most successful and where I can win the most trophies.”

“If you look at the recent history of Manchester United and Chelsea then it’s clear that a player can be very successful there.”

“Of course clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are of huge interest and the Premier League’s top two clubs are of serious interest to me when the time comes.”

However, Ozil says that he will not force his way out of the Weserstadion.

“I am under contract with Werder for another year and it is impossible for me to say if a deal will be done this summer.”

“They may decide whether they want to keep me for another season or they may decide to sell me this summer so they can get some money for me. That is up to the club.”

Meanwhile, Eurosport reports Bild quoting Oezil as saying that he is staying with Werder and will see out the remainder of his contract with the Bundesliga side.

“The situation is clear for the next 12 months: I still have a contract with Bremen. What will happen after that, I can’t tell at the moment.”

“I am a friend of honesty. I have never extended a contract and then left a club. I have never done that. I have always happily respected my contract.”

“In the last two-and-a-half years, I have never said I want to leave. I had an offer last year, but I concentrated on Werder.”

“In your career as a professional footballer you earn enough money, so what counts for me is the sporting perspective.”
