Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes has agreed to join the Belgian club Standard Liege on loan for the rest of this season and an official announcement is expected soon.

The 34-year-old will finally end his nightmare spell at Old Trafford  with a move away.

The former Barcelona keeper was signed as a backup to David De Gea, but the World Cup winner fell out of favour with manager Louis Van Gaal and has been banished from the first team ever since.

Apparently the Spaniard refused to train with the U21s to improve his fitness and was then alienated from the rest of the first team on match days as well as training sessions.

Valdes has been keen to end his Old Trafford nightmare for some time now and was close to leaving the club during the summer. However, a deadline day move to Turkey broke down and the out of favour keeper has not managed to play a single game since then.

The £60,000-a-week star is eager to get back to playing regularly and it appears that Manchester United have agreed to loan him out for the remainder of this season. The player will then be free to join any club he wants as his contract expires in the summer.

Standard Liege are still in the race for the European places and the 7th placed Belgian outfit will be delighted with the addition of Valdes.

The Belgians have conceded 36 goals in 22 league games so far and will be hoping that Valdes can make a difference in between the sticks.

Furthermore, the player has already said his goodbye to the Manchester United fans on his official Twitter account.
