Turkish outfit Başakşehir are in talks to sign the Chelsea winger Christian Atsu.

The Ghanian is currently on loan at Newcastle United, but Başakşehir are confident of signing him on loan for the remainder of this season. Fanatik are reporting (translation via Sportwitness) that Başakşehir’s offer includes a buy-out fee. The report also adds that talks are at an advanced stage right now.

Atsu joined Newcastle on loan in the summer window, but the 25-year-old has failed to impress so far and has played just 653 minutes of first team football for the Championship side this season.

There is no mention of Chelsea having the option to recall the player from loan this month, but the Turkish outlet Fanatik are assuming that Başakşehir will seal the deal for Atsu before the January window closes.

Regardless of what the Turkish media are reporting, Chelsea will have to discuss with Newcastle United before agreeing to a deal with Başakşehir. Apparently, Newcastle have the option to buy the player at the end of this season. There is no way the Blues will sanction Atsu’s move to Turkey without Newcastle’s approval.

Having said that, the Chelsea winger is not a part of Conte’s plans and his contract expires in 2018. A permanent move away from Chelsea would be the best option for all parties.
