Could Aston Villa finally be ready to give in and sell Gareth Barry to Liverpool? Their part in today’s roundup makes it look as if they might be preparing for the incoming 15 to 20 million pound windfall from the impending Barry transfer.
I’ll be making a separate post soon in regards to the rumor rating system, but for those who are new to the roundups, I’ll give a quick rundown of it.
1 – impossible/laughable
2 – highly unlikely, but not impossible
3 – could go either way, depending on the player’s desire to move, the club in question, and how much is being offered
4 – almost a certainty that the player will leave, may it be that a bid has been accepted or the right club has lodged their bid
5 – done deal or the player is definitely leaving (put in a transfer request/has been put up for sale or released)
And now, to the news!
The Sun says that the Premier League has blocked Manchester City’s deal for Brazilian striker Jo, as they have concerns over potential third-party ownership issues involving MSI, the same company that owned Carlos Tevez, who, like Alves, played for Corinthians, who’s closely linked with MSI.
Rumor Rating: 4 – The transfer should still go through in the end, but a lot of loops are going to have to be cleared before the Premier League gives it the green light.
Aston Villa have made an official approach for Blackburn’s want-away star David Bentley, offering Blackburn 15 million pounds.
Rumor Rating: 3 – Villa can’t offer Bentley Champions League football as of yet, but he could be a key in helping them achieve it within the next couple of seasons.
Manchester United are being linked with Schalke 04 midfielder Jermaine Jones, who’s coming off of a strong season for the Champions League quarterfinalists.
Rumor Rating: 2 – Jones has said he’s proud of the interest from Manchester United, but Schalke will likely want to hold onto him, as they only signed him from Eintracht Frankfurt last year.
Arsenal are after versatile Valencia defender Raul Albiol, but instead of looking to match Valencia’s 10 million pound asking price, will try to snap up the 22-year old with a five million pound offer.
Rumor Rating: 3 – Valencia need the money, so the offer could be enough. However, I’m thinking they might try to hold out for a little more.
Newcastle have had a two million pound bid for Tottenham’s Pascal Chimbonda rejected.
Rumor Rating: 4 – Chimbonda is all but out of the door at White Hart Lane, so all Newcastle likely need to do to seal the deal is to raise their bid juuuust a little higher.
Hull City are set to make a two million pound bid for former Sheffield United man Colin Kazim-Richards, who now plays for Turkish side Fenerbahce.
The 21-year old attacker, who also goes by Kazim Kazim now, is currently with Turkey’s Euro 2008 squad.
Rumor Rating: 3 – He’s only coming off of his first season with Fenerbahce, which helped him earn that place in the Turkey squad, so the Yellow Canaries may rebuff Hull’s advances.
This isn’t a surprise, but new Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola has said that Ronaldinho, Deco, and Samuel Eto’o can all leave the club this summer.
Rumor Rating: 5 – If there is one that could stay, it’d likely be Eto’o, in my opinion, but with AC Milan, Inter, and others sniffing around, he should follow the other two out.
Mallorca striker Dani Guiza could be on his way to Turkey, as Fenerbahce have met his release clause of 15 million euros, and are set to make him a contract offer of three million euros per year.
Rumor Rating: 3 – Certainly a lucrative offer, but he might wait for an offer from the likes of Barcelona before making a decision on his future. However, with Spain national team coach Luis Aragones potentially set to become Fenerbahce’s new manager, Guiza could be tempted to make the move.
Valencia defender Miguel has stated his intentions to quit the club, which could initiate a move by Manchester United, who were linked with him recently.
Rumor Rating: 4 – It’s been an up and down season for the Portuguese international, so it’s no surprise that he wants to leave, but what exactly broke the camel’s back is something he’s keeping to himself.
The Daily Mail says that Roma could be set to take Manchester United striker Louis Saha on loan with a view to a permanent 7 million pound deal, which would be contingent on his ability to stay fit.
Rumor Rating: 4 – Well, for his sake, he best try to avoid black cats and cracks in sidewalks in Rome then, eh?
Roma aren’t short of options on their target list for a target man, as Sevilla’s Luis Fabiano has stated his desire to leave Seville for Rome.
Rumor Rating: 4 – Fabiano’s release clause is only 12 million euros, so they wouldn’t need to break the bank for him. However, they’ll have to deal with Global Soccer Investment as much as they will with Sevilla, as GSI owns the majority of his rights.
Well, that’s it for today’s news and rumors – chime in, chip in, and I’ll be back tomorrow!
