I’ll spare you the Cristiano Ronaldo talk for today, because I’m sure you’ve already read all there is to read on his most recent comments. However, there is plenty more to report on today, starting with a couple of potential exits at Arsenal.
According to reports in Italy, Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has agreed a deal with AC Milan, but the Gunners’ asking price of 32 million pounds could be a stumbling block.
Rumor Rating: 4 – One great season, and you’re ready to go to a club that isn’t even going to be in the Champions League next season? Well, I guess we’ll see what happens, and how willing Arsenal are to part with him.
Vincenzo Morabito, the agent of Arsenal’s Alexander Hleb, says that the midfielder is on the verge of a move to Barcelona, according to a quote on the Daily Mirror’s site.
Rumor Rating: 5 – Arsene can’t help but be pissed, and frankly, I don’t blame him.
Barcelona are also preparing to make one last bid for Sevilla’s Daniel Alves, with an offer of 30 million euros and defender Fernando Navarro in the deal.
Rumor Rating: 5 – That should be enough, as long as Sevilla aren’t trying to get a little greedy. With the funds from the sale of Seydou Keita and Alves, Sevilla could make several moves to aid their push for a La Liga title and a return to the Champions League.
While Barcelona’s Giovani dos Santos is closing in on an 8.6 million pound move to Tottenham, Spurs could be set to nab another La Liga product in Real Zaragoza’s Sergio Garcia, as club reps were set to meet with Garcia’s agent on Thursday.
Rumor Rating: 5 – Well, I guess you can never have enough attacking players. There’s a good chance Spurs could lead the Premier League in goals scored next season, but until their defensive record gets better, they’re not going to be the team that Juande Ramos wants them to be.
Aston Villa, Everton, and Portsmouth are reportedly interested in Newcastle defender Steven Taylor, who has only 13 months left on his current contract.
Rumor Rating: 4 – With his current value at 8 million pounds, it could be the right time for Newcastle to sell him if he isn’t going to agree a new deal, because they don’t want to lose him for next to nothing.
According to The Sun, Everton are in for Peterborough keeper Joe Lewis, who could cost the Toffees three million pounds.
Rumor Rating: 5 – Lewis has a lot of promise, as shown by his recent call-up to the England squad, so get while the gettin’s good, David!
Everton could also make a bid for the SPL’s leading scorer, Celtic’s Scott McDonald
Rumor Rating: 3 – The report says it could be a bid of two million pounds, but I’d think that Celtic might want a good bit more after McDonald netted 31 times last season.
Newcastle and West Ham are chasing former Chelsea man Eidur Gudjohnsen, who has been told he can leave Barcelona.
Rumor Rating: 5 – Gudjohnsen had a lot of success in England, and a move could see him return to top form. At four million pounds, he’d be a relatively inexpensive buy.
Newcastle are also being linked with a potential move for Hungarian defender Roland Jahusz, who plays for Belgian side Anderlecht.
Rumor Rating: 4 – Jahusz, who comes in at 6 feet, 3 inches tall, is experienced both domestically and internationally (36 caps for Hungary), and would likely be a pretty inexpensive purchase.
Middlesbrough could now be the front-runners for rising American star Michael Bradley.
Rumor Rating: 5 – The free-scoring midfielder will have a new home in England soon, may it be at Everton, Boro, or one of the several other Premier League clubs that have been linked with him.
Inter could be selling two players to Serie A rivals Juventus, as Nicolas Burdisso and Dejan Stankovic could be on their way to Turin very soon.
Rumor Rating: 5 – Neither player had the greatest of seasons in 2007/08, and could be off-loaded in a mass clear-out following Jose Mourinho’s arrival.
Napoli could be set to make a 12.5 million euro bid for Schalke 04 hit-man Kevin Kuranyi, who’s a regular goalscorer for club and country.
Rumor Rating: 4 – Schalke might want a little more for one of their stars, but if they want to reel in Andrei Arshavin, it might require a big sale to help fund the deal.
Napoli have also reportedly rejected a huge offer for young star Marek Hamsik, as they rebuffed an offer of 28.5 million euros, likely from Chelsea.
Rumor Rating: 1 – It’s only a matter of time before they sell him, but they’d like to hold onto their influential midfielder for as long as possible.
Well, that’s it for today – chime in, chip in, and I’ll be back tomorrow!
