Today’s top transfer rumours revolve around Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea, Milan, Inter, Real Madrid and the usual talent-spotting by Manchester United and Arsenal.
One trick of the feet and the entire situation alters apparently. Even on Saturday, Ronaldinho’s future at FC Barcelona was lurking in the shadows of doubt as his brother-cum-agent Roberto de Assis was constantly rebuffing press reports that the Brazilian ace was heading out of Camp Nou at the end of the season one moment and the very next moment was suggesting that talks are underway with AC Milan. But one single penalty on Sunday and the situation appears to have taken a favorable turn.
FC Barceona won 2-1 against Deportivo la Coruna at home on Sunday night and Ronaldinho scored the equalizer. Ronaldinho was unable to demonstrate his wonderful footwork or magic but he was certainly working hard and linking quite well with the returning Samuel Eto’o. After the victory, this is what Barcelona President Joan Laporta had to say:
Barcelona declare that we will not sell him. We have absolutely no intention of selling him. There is absolutely no contact, not with Chelsea, not with Milan, and not with any other club about this move.
AC Milan have illustrated interest to import Ronaldinho and construct the magical trio of Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Kaka at the San Siro but one club that doesn’t want Ronaldinho is Milan’s city rivals Inter Milan. Instead they want French youngster Jeremy Menez who is currently with AS Monaco.
Staying in Italy and Palermo seem to having tough times in staving off both Real Madrid and Chelsea for their star striker Amauri. Palermo have constantly denied that the Brazilian striker is up for sale but with Milan and Barcelona already set their eyes on the 27-year old, Palermo might just release the pressure a little bit and start considering offers for him.
Meanwhile England international Frank Lampard is supposed to have given the green signal for his transfer from Chelsea to Juventus. If Italian press reports are to be believed, then Lampard has remarked that should the Old Lady of Turin be ready to pay him €7m a year, then he would join them next season.
There’s not much Spanish transfer gossip circulating at the moment except at Real Madrid. The club’s midfielder Guti says that he would love to have Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto’o or Lionel Messi join Real Madrid and Robinho has claimed that he actually rejected an offer from Juventus in 2005 and decided to move to Real Madrid instead.
Matters in England are mostly focused on the England national coach scenario but there is an amusing gossip on Liverpool. The Sun claims that should Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez be sacked, then former Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann could well be appointed as the new man in charge of Liverpool. Klinsmann, if you need telling, is also being hotly tipped to take over the England job.
Arsenal and Manchester United continue their duel in the snapping up of young talents. Club America’s brilliant goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa is the bone of contention between the two English clubs with German powerhouse Bayern Munich also throwing their name into the hat.
The Sunday Mirror has reported that Tottenham Hotspur, currently hovering just above the relegation zone, are eager to acquire the services of Cardiff City teenager Chris Gunter for £5 million. Tottenahm striker Jermaine Defoe meanwhile has said that he would stay at Tottenahm and not move elsewhere even if he doesn’t get as many games as he would like to have under his belt. The newspaper has also reported that Tottenham are also considering a £7 million lashout on Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson.
