Transfer Deadline Day: Live!

This morning’s live blog

17:10 – No sign of Ozil or Herrera yet. This is the end of the road from us at the live blog, we’re handing over the reins to BallStreet and their live transfer deadline day event which kicks off at 19:30 (see video at the top). Here’s hoping today is an uneventful day for your team, unless you haven’t signed anyone all season, in which case you might as well step away from the computer, it’s not safe for you here.

16:56 – Everton reject United bid for Baines. No word on Fellaini or Herrera, but both are more or less done..

15:57 – Swansea are closing in on the signing of Alvaro Vazquez from Spanish side Getafe. The Welsh side have agreed a deal to sign the 22-year-old on a season long loan with the option to buy.

15:53 – Sunderland’s Stephane Sessegnon at WBA training ground, so deal as good as done. Big call from PDC.

15:50 – According to BBC’s Phil McNulty: “Everton manager Roberto Martinez is at a work permit hearing for midfielder Fernando of Porto. They are very interested in pursuing the deal for him when Marouane Fellaini’s move to Manchester United goes through. This might make Wigan’s James McCarthy a little anxious.”

15:38 – Via Bild: Arsenal to confirm Ozil signing in one hour.

15:26 – Don’t be surprised if the transfer window goes into Fergie time.

15:24 – Good news United fans. According to Andy Mitten, Herrera to United is done for 36m Euros. Medical pending, waiting on funds to clear (as United have to pay the player, who then has to buy out his transfer clause from the club – Spanish transfer rules for foreign clubs) and the necessary paperwork.

14:17 – Mesut Ozil’s ‘assists’ stats. 35, 26 and 31 in last three seasons for Madrid/Germany. If he fits in and stays fit, Spurs are out of the Champions League. Again.

14:00 – United fans getting jealous of Arsenal fans. Still no movement from United in the transfer window. Everton waiting on Barry before they release Fellaini to United, but Woodward’s heel-dragging on Herrera makes no sense.

13:20 – Arsenal looking to sign Ba on loan from Chelsea. Newcastle fans will be disappointed but this could mean that Cabaye stays at St James’ Park.

13:09 – Gareth Barry holds the key to Fellaini’s move to United. Everton trying to sign the Man City midfielder on loan, wages a serious obstacle.

13:00 – 10 hours to go and Arsenal looking set to sign Ozil (Madrid, £40m), Viviano (Fiorentina, unknown) and Ba (Chelsea, loan).

12:55 – Gareth Bale being unveiled at Bernabeu. Fans chanting: “Don’t sell Ozil”.

Arsenal and Manchester United have spent the whole summer sitting around twiddling their thumbs and getting rejected by players and clubs alike. Both sprung into action in the last week of August and will spend upwards of 50m each on transfer deadline day.

And that’s before we talk about Liverpool signing a striker on loan from Chelsea, Madrid making a move for a certain Merseyside forward, and
