Christian Eriksen opened the scoring with a sublime free-kick in the first-half, but Tim Sherwood’s men conceded straight after when Jonas Olsson converted after poor defending.
Here are the Tottenham player ratings.
Hugo Lloris – 7/10
Not overly called into action and had a quiet second half, but the French goalkeeper made a good save to deny Vydra in the first 45.
Kyle Walker – 8/10
Tottenham’s best player, Walker was the only defender that looked comfortable and tried to inspire his lacklustre team-mates by getting forward too.
Michael Dawson – 6/10
Made a number of courageous blocks and interceptions, but his positional sense was all over the place and looked scared of Vydra’s pace.
Vlad Chiriches – 4/10
The Romanian was simply awful today. Repeatedly gave the ball away in dangerous areas, too easily beaten by opponents, didn’t attack the ball, culpable for the goal and gave away needless free-kicks. Dreadful.
Danny Rose – 6/10
Defensively looked suspect while his distribution with the ball at his feet was largely inaccurate. Combined some excellent crosses with a fair few poor ones.
Nacer Chadli – 5/10
A spectator for the most part, Chadli looked to drift infield to get involved but was a periphery figure before being removed.
Christian Eriksen – 7/10
Scored a wonderful free-kick and tried his best to track back and win the personal battles, despite it not being his natural instinct. Set piece delivery was average, while he was guilty of giving the ball away too.
Lewis Holtby – 6/10
Spurs should have started with an enforcer alongside Eriksen, as the side was outnumbered in midfield. Holtby worked hard but had little-to-no influence on proceedings.
Gylfi Sigurdsson – 7/10
Made some good runs off the ball and showed excellent touches, especially in the first-half. Drifted out of the game slightly in the second 45.
Emmanuel Adebayor – 6/10
No sign of the striker that netted a brace against Southampton, as Adebayor struggled to make an impact.
Roberto Soldado – 7/10
Worked hard to get his team the winning goal, but was devoid of any real quality service from wide areas.
Nabil Bentaleb – 6/10
Seems to have a good range of passing, but lacks the conviction to use it. Slowed the game down by holding onto the ball for too long.
Erik Lamela – 6/10
Didn’t do much when he came on, and still looks to be playing on the wrong flank – needs to be on the left. A pathetic flop to the ground in the dying minutes typified his time in England so far.
