Reputed journalist Tony Barret of the Times reports that Southampton have accepted Liverpool’s improved bid for full back Nathaniel Clyne. Liverpool returned with an improved offer worth up to £12.5m which Southampton agreed after having an initial £10m bid rejected last month. Clyne is expected to undergo a medical and settle his personal terms once he returns from holiday next week.

Liverpool were looking to sign a right-back in the summer following the departure of Glen Johnson and see Clyne as the ideal replacement replacement. Also, the repetitive injuries to Jon Flanagan is a major concern while Andre Wisdom is inexperienced to fill in the slot.

The Reds also announced their capture of Brazilian attacking midfielder Roberto Firmino from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim just yesterday. The Anfield side have been pro active with their summer signings this time out having already signed Danny Ings, James Milner apart from Adam Bogdan and Joe Gomez.

Manchester United were also interested in the player but ESPN reported that the Red Devils dropped their pursuit of the player at the end of May, leaving Liverpool as the front runners to secure Clyne’s services.

As Clyne makes his move, he will be Liverpool’s sixth summer signing. The right back will join his former team mates Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert at Anfield, the trio who were a part of Southampton’s mass exodus last summer.
