Newcastle United should have won, Tottenham and Man City deserved penalties, Man Utd didn’t

The old adage that you don’t get the rub of the green when you are down at the bottom of the league will have a resonance with the Premier League strugglers.

No less than three of the bottom four are favoured by the decisions of the Right Result team this week.

Heading the list, amid all the other goings on at St James Park, is Newcastle United turning defeat into victory. Blackburn’s first goal should have been ruled out for offside while the Toon should have had a second second-half penalty for handball.

There’s small consolation for Tottenham Hotspur but their handball penalty award still doesn’t avoid defeat at Portsmouth.

Bolton Wanderers’ losing deficit is also reduced by one at Manchester United after the stunning decision by Rob Styles to award Man U a penalty for a coaching manual tackle by JLloyd Samuel.

There’s plenty of head-scratching in the blue half of Manchester too.

The headlines from City’s trip to Wigan was Wilson Palacios’s hugely exaggerated fall for a Wigan penalty.

However, it was a trip on Richard Dunne by Emile Heskey that should have led to City sharing the points.
