Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has claimed that no transfer talks have taken place to negotiate Spanish striker Alvaro Morata’s potential move to Manchester United.

Morata has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford this summer and according to several reports, the 24-year-old has already agreed personal terms to reunite with Jose Mourinho, who handed him his first team debut in 2010 while the Portuguese was in-charge of Real Madrid.

The Spain International has reportedly taken a break from his honeymoon and has returned to Madrid to speed up his move to the English giants, but Los Blancos president Florentino Perez insists that his club has not held any talks with Manchester United.

In an interview, Perez told El Primer Palo radio: “I believe we are not negotiating with Manchester United, which does not mean that there are not people around him who are talking, which is normal.

“I have read that we have reached an agreement for I don’t know how many million Euros, but it is not true.”

Morata scored 15 goals and provided four assists despite being handed just 14 La Liga starts last season and is thought to be determined to leave the Bernabeu for the second time in three years in search of regular first team football.

According to recent speculation, Real Madrid are not willing to budge on their 80m Euros (£70.61 million) asking price for Morata, a figure the Old Trafford hierarchy are reluctant to meet at the moment.

After failing in their pursuit to lure French striker Antonie Griezmann from Atletico Madrid earlier this summer, Manchester United remain hopeful of signing Morata to bolster their attack for the upcoming campaign.

The Red Devils have already released their last season’s top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to his injury concerns, while club captain Wayne Rooney looks likely to end his 13-year spell at Manchester United after falling down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho.
