Manchester United are eyeing up a move for the Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.

The Frenchman has been a long term target for several Premier League clubs including Arsenal and Manchester United.

Benzema is regarded as one of the best strikers in world football and Louis Van Gaal happens to be an admirer of the Madrid striker.

Manchester United’s need for a striker is no secret and the club captain Wayne Rooney has struggled to deliver as the club’s main striker. Apparently Van Gaal wants a new number nine in the summer.

According to El Confidencial, Manchester United are weighing up a move for the Frenchman who has been embroiled in controversy over a sex tape blackmail involving his teammate Mathieu Valbuena.

Although Benzema has stated that this is all a misunderstanding, the French striker is still dealing with legal matters. If proven guilty, the Real Madrid striker could be sent to prison for five years.

The report states that United’s interest in the player stems from the controversy surrounding him. The Premier League giants are hopeful that the player can be snapped up for a bargain price now.

El Confidencial say that Real Madrid valued Benzema at 60 million euros but are aware that their asset has been devalued after this controversy.

Furthermore the report also states that Perez is running out of patience with Benzema and could be willing to get rid of him in the summer.

It will be interesting to see if Manchester United submit an official proposal for the Frenchman. Benzema could be reunited at Old Trafford with his national team striker partner Anthony Martial.

The Real Madrid striker is expected to replace Wayne Rooney as the club’s main striker with the England international moving into an attacking midfield position.
