Liverpool will face Sunderland on Sunday afternoon at the Stadium of Lights looking to bounce back from their shock defeat at the hands of Southampton last weekend.

Brendan Rodgers implemented a 3-4-1-2 formation, a shift from the 4-2-3-1 to accommodate his two strikers – Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez – in the last game against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Probably it is the best option that allows Rodgers to use his two best strikers to full effect.

Against Manchester United, Liverpool looked solid in the first half but the performance dropped a bit in the second half. There could be few reasons for that. First, Suarez returned after such a long time and quite naturally he looked bit rusty. Secondly, after conceding the goal early in the second half, the momentum shifted towards the hosts and it became difficult for Liverpool to control the game, as they went looked for more direct approach to find an equalizer. And, there were few costly individual errors as well.

But one thing that became day light clear is – Victor Moses is not suited in the no 10 role behind the strikers. And so is Iago Aspas. These two players are wide forwards and do not have the requisite skills to play in a specialized position like the trequartista.

In the defence, Daniel Agger is fit again and the Dane should start instead of Mamadou Sakho at the back alongside Toure and Skrtel.

Rodgers can afford to play bit more adventurous football and draft Luis Alberto in place of Victor Moses at no 10 while shifting Moses on the left-flank which is his customary position. The formation could be like this:
