Player Ratings Swansea 2-2 Liverpool: Sturridge scores yet again but Reds lucky with a draw

Sturridge
Sturridge

Liverpool remain on top of the Barclays Premier League table after earning a 2-2 draw against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

Sturridge

Former Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey opened the scoring for the home side within first three minutes. Shelvey was in the act shortly, as his back-pass found Daniel Sturridge in the box, the England striker didn’t need any second invitation to score.

The Reds took the lead before half time, when debutant Victor Moses picked up a poor pass from Shelvey and scored a brilliant solo goal. In the second half, Swansea restored parity through Michu, with Shelvey providing the assist.

Here are my Liverpool player ratings:

Mignolet 7/10

He simply couldn’t do anything with those two goals. But he pulled off some smart saves to keep the Reds in the game, especially in the second half.

Skrtel 7/10

The Slovakian produced yet another strong performance for the Reds. With 11 clearances, 3 shots blocked and 2 aerial duel won, he was nothing but outstanding.

Sakho 4/10

Not the best of debut expected from the most expensive defender in the club’s history. But, he looked better in the second half. Need to adapt quickly in the new environment.

Wisdom 4/10

The youngster looked solid at the back but produced very little going forward. Tried to play within his limitations but his lack of adventure meant Liverpool hardly produced any attack from the right hand side.

Enrique 5/10

The Spaniard did what he does regularly. He worked with Moses brilliantly on the left hand side and defensively did some good work too.

Leiva 7/10

Lucas was one of the strong performers of the night for me on the pitch. He made 60 successful passes out of 65 attempted, but his contribution defensively was immense – 2 clearances and 5 successful tackles.

Gerrard 6/10

The Reds skipper created two very good goal scoring chances in the match. Otherwise, the performance looked pretty average to me.

Henderson 6.5/10

Henderson dropped down too deep to help out young Andre Wisdom. However, going forward he was involved with some brilliant attacking movements.

Sturridge 7/10

The England striker has now scored 4 goals in 4 games for the Reds. His anticipation and movement for Liverpool’s first goal was superb. Will he now make it 5 in 5?

Coutinho 6/10

Liverpool completely lost their creative edge once Coutinho left the field due to shoulder injury. That shows how valuable he is to the team, in terms of building up attacking play.

Moses 7/10

Superb. Goal on debut, showed some fabulous control over the ball and every time looked composed with the ball out wide on the left hand side. His loan move from Chelsea could be best deal of the summer for the Reds.

 Subs:

Aspas 4/10

Came on to replace Coutinho but hardly left any impact. Got a golden opportunity to seal the tie in the Reds’ favour in the final minutes of the game, but wasted the chance completely.
