Eric DierTottenham Hotspur have confirmed their defender Eric Dier has committed his future to the club by sign a new deal on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old arrived at White Hart Lane from Sporting Lisbon last summer. He made 28 appearances in the league in his debut season with the north London club. After an impressive start to his club career in England, the defender has extended his contract which will keep him at Tottenham until 2020.

A statement on Tottenham’s official website read, “We are delighted to announce that Eric Dier has signed a new contract with the club which will run until 2020.”

The England Under21 international is a versatile player and can play in multiple positions in the back four. He has been widely used in both centre-back and right-back position by Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Dier says the club is in a right place and believes there is exciting times ahead for Tottenham fans with the overall progress at the club, including the plans for the new stadium. The defender says this convinced him to sign an extension.

“If you look at the Training Centre, the young squad, the new stadium coming through – the club is in a great place and as long as we stick together, everything is looking very exciting,” Eric told us on Wednesday,” Dier explained.

“There is a great core here of young players and even the likes of Christian, Erik, Kyle and Danny are all still young. We have a young team, a core of young English players and young players in general and there is such a great future for the club.”
