Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba’s proposed return to Manchester United is expected to push Bastian Schweinsteiger towards the exit door this summer, according to several local newspapers in England.
Th German International endured a injury-hit season in his debut Premier League campaign, making just 13 league appearances out of which only three coming after the turn of the year.
Man Utd are set for a major squad shake-up this summer under Jose Mourinho and Schweinsteiger, who falls down in the pecking order behind Morgan Schneiderlin, Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini, is thought to be a transfer target for Besiktas and Paris Saint-Germain despite having concerns over his long-sustained knee problem.
The Red Devils appear close to completing a world record transfer move for French midfielder Paul Pogba next week while his potential return to Old Trafford is poised to overload the central midfielders in the Man Utd squad with Schweinsteiger likely to become the most high-profile victim of Jose Mourinho’s arrival.
Meanwhile, Man Utd legend and former midfielder Paul Scholes has claimed that Paul Pogba is not worth the heavy price-tag that the Premier League giants are willing to pay for their former youth academy player.
“I just don’t think he is worth £86m,” Scholes said. “For that sort of money, you want someone who is going to score 50 goals a season like Ronaldo or Messi. Pogba is nowhere worth that kind of money yet.
“He was a very talented young player, I played with him and I knew how good he was. He played for the first team maybe once or twice, but from my understanding he was asking for too much money.
“Okay, he has gone on to great things. I think certainly there has been a lot of improvement. He needed to improve if he is going to be a player worth £86 million.”
