Reports from the Guardian claim that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho would block veteran goalkeeper Petr Cech moving to a rival Premier League club. Mourinho would ideally love to retain the services of the 32 year old who will just one year remaining in his contract come this summer.

Cech though enjoys a close relationship with Blues owner Roman Abramovich, who is however inclined to allow the Czech International to choose his next destination. French sides Monaco and Paris St Germain have been linked with the player while Arsenal are also interested in his services. Moving to the Gunners would be enticing for Cech as it would mean that he and his family could still stay in London.

Cech has fallen behind the pecking order for a starting eleven spot to Thibaut Courtois and he has earlier claimed that he wouldn’t want to spend another season watching from the sidelines. Cech has featured just 6 times in the Premier League this season but started the Blues’ 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the Capital One Cup in March.

Mourinho though wouldn’t want to strengthen any Premier League rival by selling Cech and highlighted his importance this season. The Portuguese said, “Without Petr this season, I don’t think the club would be champions because he played six important matches in the Premier League. Without these points, we probably wouldn’t be champions.”

“For me, decision number one, Petr will stay. After that, second point, to go but not in England. The option I don’t want is for him to go to an English club. But, I repeat, I am just the manager and he means so much for this club and what he did in this club, I think he deserves everything from this club. If the club decision is different to mine I will accept it.”
