Jose Mourinho has been linked with an immediate return to management after being sacked by Chelsea earlier this month and it seems the Portuguese is closing in on a move to Manchester United.

According to reports from El Confidencial, the former Chelsea manager is close to taking over at Old Trafford and could be in the Manchester United dugout when Chelsea visit Old Trafford.

However, the Spanish outlet have mentioned that this can only happen if Louis Van Gaal loses his next game against Stoke City in the Premier League.

Therefore, Mourinho could be appointed as the Manchester United boss by Sunday if Van Gaal fails to turn it around.

Earlier it has been reported that Mourinho has a verbal agreement with Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho has always been an admirer of Manchester United and was tipped to take over from Sir Alex. However, the Portuguese had already agreed to manage Chelsea back then and a move never materialized.

After having won the title with the Blues last season, Mourinho’s team made a disastrous start this year and the Chelsea fan favourite has had to pay the price.

It will be interesting to see if Louis Van Gaal can now turn it around and if not, it would certainly be a sensational occasion when Mourinho takes charge of United against his beloved Chelsea.
