Mexico’s national side lost their first game since October 2013 against the new-boys to the World Cup final stages, Bosnia & Herzegovina. The North American team were outdone by their European opponents in almost every department… except complaining!

Mexican manager, Miguel Herrera, was upset at kick-off when Bosnia fielded a team that differed fairly heavily from the previously supplied official starting line-up, by at least four names, and continued to have hissy-fits throughout the game. In many ways he had every right to complain but what his team really needed from him was to center his attention on the game at hand. The lack of unity and focus didn’t help Mexico’s attempts to claw back from behind.

The boys from central Europe seemed to take Mexico by surprise, proving much stronger competition than they had bargained for, playing some excellent attacking football and working very competently as a team.

Edin Dzeko, of Manchester City, put in a solid performance and inspired his teammates to play the brand of attacking football that earned them World Cup finals qualification with a positive goal difference of 24.

Galatasaray midfielder Hajrovic’s winner was a well worked team goal, close to the end of the first half and it ended up being enough to secure the victory. Mexico came close on a number of occasions, Manchester United’s Hernandez at the center of many of their chances, but never enough to beat the impeccable Stoke stopper, Asmir Begović.

Mexico will need to regroup and come together as a unit by next week if they are to get through their group, which will prove very difficult on this kind of form. Brazil are taken almost as a given to top the group, so it will be between Mexico and Croatia most likely, to battle it out for the 2nd spot through to the next round. Croatia are another tough to break down, central European team with solidarity in the ranks and a fire in their bellies.
