Messi leaves Ronaldinho behind!

In yesterday’s game between Barcelona and Malaga at the Camp Nou, Messi’s goal was his 71st league goal for Barca. That goal is not just the winner of the game but it also took him past Ronaldinho in the club’s all time league scorers’ table.

The previous two league games against Atletico Madrid and Racing Santandar, Messi could not manage to score a goal but he went on to hit the target against Malaga after two inch-perfect passes, first by Xavi and then one-touch pass by Dani Alves.

Since the Messiah’s league debut for Barca in 2004/2005, he has played 129 league games and scored 71 goals (0.55 goals per game). Whereas, Ronaldinho played 145 league games for Barca between 2003/2004 to 2007/2008 and scored 70 goals. Messi is now 16th on the club’s all time league scorers’ table. He still has a long way to go to beat Catalan’s finest marksmen, Cesar (195 in 287 – 1939-1955), Ladislav Kubala (131 in 186 – 1951-1961) and Samuel Eto’o (108 in 145 – 2004-2009).

There are only two league clubs that Messi has failed to score against so far – Xerez and Villareal. On the other hand, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla has been his favorites – he netted seven goals each against them.
