Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has confirmed that the young French striker Anthony Martial does not want to play on the left wing.

The Dutchman has used Martial on the left wing ever since the return of club captain Wayne Rooney. In order to accommodate the misfiring England international, Van Gaal has sacrificed his best attacking talent over the last month.

Martial has been the main goalscoring threat for Manchester United ever since his big money move from Monaco, but unfortunately the young striker has had to sacrifice his preferred position.

Ever since Martial has been moved on to the wing, goals have dried up at Old Trafford and the Premier League giants went on to draw four games in a row, including 3 consecutive 0-0 results.

Louis Van Gaal has now confirmed that Martial does not want to play on left wing, but he is convinced that the youngster can do well in that position.

“He is very young but I think it is better he develops in the striker’s position,” said Van Gaal.

“But he can play left, striker and number 10.”

“He doesn’t want to play number seven [wide right] but I am convinced he can. That’s another story.”

It will be interesting to hear what Manchester United fans have to say about Martial’s opinion. The Old Trafford faithful have been crying out for the young forward to be used centrally as their number nine this season.
