Lazio midfielder Felipe Anderson’s proposed move to Manchester United could stall if Louis van Gaal leaves the managerial post at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian midfielder made a strong impression in the Serie A last season when he scored 17 goals in 23 league starts for Lazio. This season hasn’t gone well for him or for Lazio, but he still has four goals and one assist to his name.

Manchester United showed great interest in signing Anderson – who is valued €45m – in the summer but the Red Devils did not make a formal bid for him.

According to reports from The Times, Louis van Gaal has been planning to sign the 22-year-old midfielder from Lazio as early as next month when the transfer window opens. However, the deal may collapse if Jose Mourinho, or any other manager, takes over at Old Trafford.

Van Gaal’s position at the club has come under scrutiny after Manchester United’s recent slump in form, where the Red Devils have failed to win in their last six games.

Anderson is a versatile playmaker, very good on the ball, and has an eye for goal – qualities that are very important for Louis Van Gaal.

Bayern Munich and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in Anderson but it looks like United are leading the race to sign him in January. However, the proposed move could stall, if there is a change of manager at Old Trafford.
